Essex Carroll

Essex Carroll is a 13-story high end residential building located in the heart of Park Slope, in Brooklyn. The structure consists of steel framing and composite metal decking and concrete floors. It rests on a 30” deep reinforced concrete mat foundation. The building is located in close proximity to the NYC Subway and required NYC Transit Authority approval.

This project serves as a good example of using BIM to its full extent. The BIM model was used for the drafting, design, detailing, fabrication and erection of thebuilding. Our office produced not only the structural drawings and the steel shop drawings, but also the foundation concrete reinforcement shop drawings, the support of excavation drawing and the shoring and underpinning plans. Even a special temporary bracing system for the adjacent buildings was designed in BIM and implemented during the construction process.

 Wexler Associates services for the Essex Carroll Project included the following:

  • Structural Design of the new building- the building was previously designed by another engineering firm but was too expensive to build.
  • 3D Modeling, 3D Detailing and preparation of Shop Drawings for Steel Fabrication
  • Preparation of concrete reinforcement shop drawings for foundation mat and walls
  • Support of Excavation Design and Shop Drawings (including special details for NYC TA)
  • Underpinning Design and Shop Drawings
  • Temporary Bracing of adjacent buildings Design and Shop Drawings
